Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT) was a geoscience software company based in Houston, Texas, known for its seismic interpretation tools tailored for the energy sector. The company developed KINGDOM software, which became the leading Windows-based solution for seismic interpretation. SMT was acquired by IHS Markit in August 2011 for 500 million. SMTs product offerings included KINGDOM Advanced, a comprehensive suite for subsurface analysis, and KINGDOM Core, an entry-level software for geological and geophysical workflows. The companys tools were utilized by 2,700 companies in over 95 countries, including a significant portion of the top petroleum exploration and production firms. SMT played a key role in enabling efficient identification of oil and gas reservoirs through its innovative software solutions.
