In my research practice as a postdoc, Notion has replaced what used to be a chaotic mix of Evernote, Excel, and Word documents. I use a literature review database with custom fields for methodology, sample size, key findings, and citations. Linked notes connect my ongoing manuscripts to source material seamlessly. Project pages for each grant proposal track deadlines, collaborators, and budgets. The flexibility lets me design systems that fit how my mind works. Where it struggles: bibliographic management isn't a real substitute for Zotero, and academic citation export is non-existent. Mathematical notation support via LaTeX is functional but clunky. Pricing for academics could be more generous. AI features have surprising utility for literature synthesis.
