Bringing Vertex onboard two years ago was, frankly, one of the better calls I've made for this practice. Managing indirect tax obligations across a growing book of clients is the kind of work that will bury you in spreadsheets if you let it, and Vertex stopped that from happening. The multi-entity configuration tools are solid, and rolling new clients onto the platform has become a repeatable process rather than a project in itself. My team of four now handles a client load that would've required double the headcount on our old setup.
That said, the onboarding documentation could do with a serious refresh. Getting a mid-sized client with complex nexus rules configured correctly the first time took more back-and-forth with support than I'd have liked, and their response times weren't always sharp. Nothing fatal, but worth knowing if you're expecting a quick ramp. Once everything is dialled in, though, the platform earns its keep every single month.
