The first week with PlanSwift nearly broke me. Our department had five estimators to onboard, and the documentation handed to us was a mix of outdated PDFs and video tutorials that referenced a slightly older UI. Small differences, sure, but when you're brand new to a tool and the screenshots don't match what's on your screen, it erodes confidence fast. Support was reachable, I'll give them that. But the responses often pointed back to the same resources we'd already found insufficient. It felt circular, and two of my colleagues nearly gave up inside the first three days.
Here's the fair part: once you get past that rough entry, PlanSwift does deliver. The digital takeoff functionality is genuinely capable, and the ability to draw directly on plan sheets and have quantities calculated on the fly saves real time during bid crunch. Three years in, I use it every day and I'm comfortable with it. The assembly library, once customized for our workflows, is one of the stronger features. But that customization took weeks to figure out mostly through trial and error, not through any structured onboarding path.
For a mid-market department trying to bring people up to speed quickly, the lack of a proper guided onboarding flow is a real problem. If you're evaluating this, budget extra time in your rollout plan and assign someone internally to build a cheat sheet, because PlanSwift isn't going to hold your hand. The product has matured since we started, and I've seen some interface improvements, but the onboarding experience hasn't kept pace with the rest of it.
