Five years of managing Rackspace environments for a mid-sized educational charity, and the thing I keep coming back to is the admin console. Specifically, the permissions architecture. When you're dealing with a non-profit setup, you've got volunteers, part-time contractors, full-time staff, and board members who all need varying degrees of access to infrastructure resources. The role-based access controls in MyRackspace are genuinely well thought out. I can create tightly scoped roles for a temporary contractor without worrying they'll accidentally touch a production server, and I can do it in minutes rather than submitting a ticket and waiting.
The configuration experience has matured noticeably over the years. Early on, spinning up new server environments required a fair bit of back-and-forth with their support team. That's mostly been replaced by self-service tooling that's clear enough that I don't need to consult documentation for routine tasks anymore. Audit logging is solid, too. For an organisation that has to demonstrate responsible data stewardship to funders, being able to pull a clean access log quickly is genuinely useful, not just a nice-to-have.
My one persistent gripe is around multi-user notification settings. When I need to configure alert routing for a team, the options feel a bit clunky compared to how polished everything else is. It's not broken, just friction-y. The kind of thing you notice after years of daily use. Rackspace support has always been responsive when I flag issues, so I trust it'll improve. For non-profits managing infrastructure with lean IT teams, this platform handles the admin complexity well enough that I can focus on actual work rather than babysitting configuration.
