The bank-linking feature is what sold me. I was spending an embarrassing amount of time each week manually reconciling transactions in a spreadsheet, and the moment Akounto pulled in my client's bank feed automatically, I felt genuinely stupid for not switching sooner.
Day-to-day it holds up well. Invoice customization is straightforward, the mobile app (I use the Android version mostly) is snappy enough for on-the-go checks, and the automated book entries save me probably an hour per client per month. Nothing flashy, just functional. My one real gripe is customer support — response times are slow, and I've had to chase them twice on the same billing question. That's frustrating when you're mid-month close and need a quick answer. The reporting side could also be deeper; there are a few breakdowns I still have to export and finish in a spreadsheet, which partly defeats the purpose.
For a small practice like mine it's priced fairly, and the core bookkeeping loop is genuinely solid. If you're evaluating this for a larger operation with complex reporting needs, I'd stress-test that side before committing. But for straightforward accounts and cash-flow tracking? It does the job without fuss.
