Review Summary
Generated using AI from real user reviews
123-reg shows a sharply divided user base with wildly inconsistent experiences across domain registration, hosting, and support.
Users who praise the service highlight competitive pricing, fast support responses (particularly in ticketing), and full DNS control. Those satisfied with VPS hosting mention good value and uptime. Domain registration itself draws less complaint than hosting and customer service.
However, negative reviews far outnumber positive ones and centre on three serious problems. Hosting performance is repeatedly described as slow, and the control panel receives criticism for poor design. Customer support is consistently flagged as ineffective—responses characterised as irrelevant, template-based, or dismissive of genuine problems. Users report unexplained website suspensions without proper investigation, refusal to refund unauthorised renewals, lost emails without compensation, and domain suspensions that support staff failed to resolve despite months of contact. A few reviewers suspect support responses are automated. Multiple long-term customers say they have left the company out of frustration.
One reviewer alleges the company sandbagged a domain they looked at, later reselling it at inflated price—though this claim stands alone. Account management and billing clarity also emerge as pain points.
For domain registration alone, some users remain satisfied. For hosting and support, the weight of negative evidence suggests exploring alternatives first.

“They started life as "Supanames", who were competitive and provided…”
They started life as "Supanames", who were competitive and provided good service at the time. While 123-Reg remains competitive for domain registration, I'll keep with them for that: but they're useless for hosting. After several months of getting slower and slower (it seems they're using old 286s for servers), in February 2019 they suddenly suspended my website without warning, accusing me of hosting malware. Since my site was no longer accessible to the outside world, none of the publicly available website analysers could independently check it. In the end, it proved to be another website on the same server that was the culprit - but not a word of apology. By that time I had pulled the plug and transferred to a VPS from Ionos - a massive increase in speed and a decent control panel (Plesk) instead of some home-grown abortion that was clearly designed by a graphic artist but is about as much use as a politician's promise! Avoid at all costs. If you want to see how slow they are, simply visit their own website!!! 'Customer Service' never answers queries properly - coming up with a barely relevant answer from what seems to be a check-list instead.

“i had ssl with other provider and i was told…”
i had ssl with other provider and i was told they dont allow third party ssl and i have to purchase with them only? so i purchased ssl around 1900. after tht i called support to help me assign. i was told bcz domain was with other provider i have to point domain names first and then it will be done automatically, otherwsie now it wont go thru and will keep asking about csr and filling the form etc? i then informed my web developer team abt this and they done it first thing in the morning. i rang to get further help. i was told tht i have to create csr from third website, generate key and wait for confirmation email which could take upto 2 hours, which will have activation link, just click the link and wait for another 20-30 mins to get it active. nothing happened except tht i received email with different set of process? so i questioned why was i told differently in the first place? and working hours have started and it will be showing as website not secure, and give warning sign to anybody going on the website? i was left alone? i then rang around mid day and was informed tht as domain is with third party i have to create txt record with the other provider, otherwise it wont be done? so i done tht and was advised further to wait and it will be activated soon and then it will assigned to the domain? nothing happened until 1400? so half day was gone and new set of process was followed? i then rang and i was told tht the previous people made mistakes and it needs to be installed and then have to ask my developer team to point from http to https once installation email confirmation is received, which could take as long as it can? so i comlaint again tht why dont u install its matter of few second for the installation to be done? he said its another team and he cannot to anything further? nothing happened so i rang again around 1800 and i was told tht installation could take as long as it can, its not automatic and has to be done manually? no manager r there and he can make a urgent note but cant help me further? so 24 hours gone, 5 phone calls, every time was advised very poorly and told to do different steps and cant even assign baby installation which my previous provider done it automatically. all i did with previous provider was purchased ssl? they dont even have any system to mark any issue urgent to call customer back or anything? i lost whole day business and have to apologize so many customers? even after tht there is not definite answer as to when it will be done? every single time i rang them it took atleast 30-45 mins before answer?

“123 REG ARE THIEVES Over the weekend I was searching…”
123 REG ARE THIEVES Over the weekend I was searching a domain name "flightscanner.net" on you sight and it was available for registration at its normal price £9.99. However, I did not register it instantly because I wanted to register some more domains and was thinking to pay you for all domain names all together instead of going through the same process of registration for each and every domain individually. However, when I cam back to your site in about 10 minutes to register my domains I was shocked to see that the domain "flightscanner.net" became unavailable and "flightscanners.net" with the addition of letter "s" at the end was coming to about £500. This is ridiculous and a severe breach of your contractual duty of customer care according to which you cannot pick your customer's domains and register them to make money. I already have hotmail, gmail, twitter and instagram accounts of both "flightscanner" and "flightscanners" which I will use as an evidence of your misconduct to your customers who type their domain names on your site with complete trust and good faith but in return you cheat your customers and get those domains reserved which you like to keep to make money from them. If you do not release these domains with immediate affect I will take legal action against your company and bring this matter to watchdog with all evidence. Once it will be in the media I am sure many people will come out who had the same problem with you. Regards Sania Khan LLB

“I have been with this company for many years. Unfortunately…”
I have been with this company for many years. Unfortunately recently their customer support as well as performance has gone from average to terrible. They have lost ALL my emails and literally told me to take it or leave it. So I left. Considering years I spent with them I now regret it. I have not been refunded for the loss of my emails - which by the way were important business emails. When I raised the issue with support I was almost ignored and told to f$%k off. AVOID AVOID AVOID

“I misunderstood the difference between hosting and domain renewal, and…”
I misunderstood the difference between hosting and domain renewal, and thought I was up to date with my website. Unfortunately it was not and 123 suspended my website and required an additional £40 plus vat to re-instate it. plus the hosting fee. I have been with them many years and I am really dissapointed in them as a little communication and help would of been helpful. I am now looking for a new host.

“I have two domains registered with domain registrar 123-reg.co.uk for…”
I have two domains registered with domain registrar 123-reg.co.uk for community websites which serve the table tennis community in and around Dorset and also get a lot of hits from other places mostly people visiting Dorset and who wish to find information to play table tennis. These two domains have now been suspended by 123-reg having failed validation as per the message displayed from the whois search on nominet. I had initially reported this issue around September 25th 2014 without a proper resolution. The first line support didn't even bothered to raise a support issue. That was the time when I contacted Nominet when I was suggested to contact 123-reg again and also was suggested to move domains to a different registrar. As a second attempt I contacted 123-reg again on the 8th of October and having insisted issued a support ticket and subsequently closed the ticket saying the issue has been resolved. All this time I have been receiving emails from Webfusion asking me to click a link and validate my details (only Name). I did that several times but not sure why it has not validated. Last week I had realised that my domains have been suspended pending validation from webfusion. I had contacted them again on the 27th October 2014 and they issued another support ticket and said the issue will be resolved within 24 hours. I had contacted them again on the 28th October and wanted to talk to a manager and I was denied the opportunity. In spite of several updates on the ticket they neither resolved the issue nor escalated the issue to a manager. They haven't even provided information about what the problem was and when it will be resolved. I had updated the call with several messages asking for information and escalation but fell on deaf ears. I think this registrar is scandalous. The one thing they do very promptly and I repeat very promptly was to nick money on time when the domains due for renewal. Apart from that they clearly lack in customer support and issue resolution. I really don't care what and how they do but I need the issue be resolved quickly as I feel the registrar has let the community down by not resolving the issue quickly.

This company are a bunch of crooks. They just auto renewed on 3 domains I no longer wanted. They refused to refund monies I had not given permission for them to take. In my book that's theft. Beware this company. Do not use under any circumstances
