What is Boox Accountants?
Boox provides a fast and simple contractor accountant service for the UK self-employed to administer tax efficient business using a combination of professional, qualified advisers and a cloud-based software application. Our customers have total control and visibility over their business accounts giving them the freedom to do more with their time. Our core service allows self-employed contractors to incorporate their business, create and process invoices, record business expenses and manage their customers. Our application works out the company’s tax obligations, including VAT and Corporation Tax, and most importantly, calculates salary and dividend payments for the owner / directors. We also conduct the quarterly VAT Returns and file the end of year accounts, whilst providing regular health checks to ensure the business is operating effectively. Boox is better value and more accessible for freelancers compared to traditional high-street accountants.

Review Summary
Generated using AI from real user reviews
Boox Accountants delivers practical value for small business owners managing their own accounts, though adviser responsiveness can lag. The dividend calculator and salary vs. dividend split tool are standout features that save users time on tax planning, while the invoicing module and real-time expense tracking integrate smoothly into day-to-day workflows. The dashboard gives a clear view of upcoming VAT positions without manual spreadsheet work.
The main friction point is in-app adviser response times, which users report can stretch to several days—problematic when questions are time-sensitive. Customer service quality is solid once you reach someone, but the delay to get there is a real gap. For the price, most users accept this trade-off, particularly if they were previously juggling spreadsheets or paying accountants significantly more for slower turnaround. The tool works best for owners comfortable handling routine compliance tasks themselves and willing to escalate complex queries with a bit of patience.

“The dividend calculator alone was worth switching. I spent two…”
The dividend calculator alone was worth switching. I spent two years fumbling through spreadsheets and end-of-year panic emails to a high-street accountant who charged twice as much and called back maybe half the time. Boox changed that routine pretty quickly.
The invoicing module is clean and fast. I can issue an invoice, log an expense from my phone, and the dashboard already knows roughly what my next VAT return looks like. The salary vs. dividend split tool is genuinely useful for someone like me who doesn't have a background in UK tax rules. Where I'd push back: the in-app messaging with advisers can be slow, sometimes a few days between replies when I have a time-sensitive question. Customer service is good when you get there, just not always fast. For the price point, though, I'm not complaining loudly.
