“Five years is long enough to know where a product…”
Five years is long enough to know where a product actually breaks, and Valence breaks in the gaps. The AI coaching is genuinely useful for textbook situations, a manager struggling with delegation, a new hire needing confidence. That I'll grant. But the moment someone brings a context the model hasn't seen often, a neurodiverse team member, a culturally specific communication style, a genuinely unusual reporting structure, the advice gets generic fast. For a growing startup where almost everything is an edge case, that's a real problem. I've raised this with their support team more than once over the years, and the responses are polite but circular.
The platform has improved, to be fair, and the session summaries have gotten sharper. But the cultural alignment they advertise as a core feature still feels shallow unless your organisation maps neatly onto a fairly standard corporate mould. At our size, with the team we have, that gap costs more than the subscription saves. I wouldn't rule it out for a more homogeneous environment, but for us it's become more frustration than value.
